Welcome to the Sullivan County Historical Society, Sullivan County, Indiana.  We are in a very historic region; a part of the Ol’ Northwest Territory, a little north of Fort Sackville and Fort Knox in Vincennes, a little south of Fort Harrison in Terre Haute.  We are right in the middle of what once was a wild area; a “no-man’s land” of major Native American and military trails, Indian villages and isolated frontier settlements along the famous Wabash River.  We thoroughly enjoy our rich heritage and think you will, too.

What’s on our website? We are going to tell you what we’re about and what we do.  We can help you with genealogy work; giving you a hand on “climbing that family tree” – if a limb or two dips into Sullivan County.  We can help with school reports and historic talks for organizations with facts and pictures of our county 50 years ago or 200 years ago.  (Don’t count on too many pictures of this area 200 years ago – cameras not being invented yet…)  You will also give you a brief look at our little museum on the west side of the Sullivan Courthouse Square.  If you’re interested in what’s coming up, just click on “Events” – or click on “Volunteers” to see our good volunteers at work.  And, of course, you can see what we have for sale (how come you’re not surprised?).
